At Wallops, all of our hard work was supposed to culminate at this point. The research, proposal writing, Hurricane Goldstein, presenting, it was all for this moment: launching our experiment to the International Space Station. We traveled up to Chincoteague, VA, to watch the launch and attend all of the pre-launch events.
Joe; Gabe; Mrs. Voigt; Mr. and Mrs. Garvey, Joe’s parents; Jane Garvey, Joe’s sister; Nicole Lindbergh, my sister; Stacey Lindbergh, my mother; Nora Voigt, Gabe’s sister and our team mascot; and Laura Stevens, an astrophysicist and former PSA physics teacher, all went to watch the launch. We made the trek with unbridled excitement and euphoria. Even Nora, who’s only five, seemed to understand how monumental this was for us. We were becoming a part of the history of human exploration of the cosmos, albeit in a small way.
We arrived right after the initial pre-launch news conference, unfortunately. | |
| Luckily, we were still able to watch the Cargo Overview Briefing. You can hear Ms. Stevens ask a question at the end of this one! |
